Due to crediting shows such as ‘Project Runway’, a growing number of people are beginning to consider fashion design as a career. There are many individuals who are creative people who have consistently been interested in fashion design, and are considering getting into a career in fashion. If you have doubts whether you would make it not in the fashion design world, there are some successful characteristics that an aspiring fashion designer should have.

The Traits of a Successful Fashion Designer

The first trait that you should possess is a knowledge of business. Most people who start their own lines in the fashion world choose one of two paths. The first path is to “go it alone” and open their own fashion boutique store.

The second path is to sell their designs to other stores, who will in turn make and sell them. No matter which path you choose, be sure you know the ins and outs of the fashion business if you truly want to compete.

Another successful trait of any fashion designer is an eye for innovation. There are many different clothing lines out there already, and for you to be successful, you need to make new designs that have never been seen before. Look through the sketches that you already have, and get advice from those who know the current fashion trends. If you design things that are only slightly different from designs that are already on the market, chances are that prospective buyers will not be interested.

Not only do you have to have business skills, but you also have to have people skills. To be successful, you of course have to have excellent designs, but you also have to be able to market those designs to clients. Remember that if it comes down to a designer with no personality marketing clothes, and a designer who does have a good personality, then the person with the better personality will most likely get the client.

Naturally, you have to make certain that you have that creative spirit deep down inside to begin with if you wish to be a fashion designer that is successful. For instance, are you the type of person who’s always thinking of new ways to make popular designs better or are always sketching new drawings? If you think that this is you, and the odds are you can take all that creativity, nurture and develop it, and be spring boarded into a successful career in fashion design.[tags]fashion design, project runway, fashion career[/tags]

Fashion is one of the most important things to girls, especially if you are in your teens and in college where everyone wears and talks about latest trends and styles everyday. Here are a few tips and suggestions on girl’s fashion, which may helps you keep up with the fashion trend year round.

Most designers will take out at least two collections a year, spring and fall while some will take out four, spring, summer, fall and winter. With many different style and designs for girls, boys, women and men and you will find that firstly it is very hard to keep up with every seasonal tread for one main reason; all styles do not suit everyone.

How many times did you look at a fashion show and thought to yourself: who can wear that dress besides the model? The fact is that some of those styles are made for modeling purposes only and the whole collection is slightly different than what you see on the runway. However, the first and most important girl’s fashion rule is to wear clothes that suit your height, weight, personality and character.

How to Always Dress Fashionably

Classic fashion is always in style and anytime you don’t want to make a mistake when dressing up for an event, you can count on classic clothes. However, girls don’t always want to wear classic clothes so, how can they always be in fashion? A simple way to make girls fashion work for you is to choose from a collection that suits you best. For example, if a particular color suits your skin tone best, you can get a blouse and wear it with jeans or black pants, which don’t have to be from the same collection.

Accessories are another way to keep with the latest girls fashion without even wearing any clothes from the latest trends. It is important you know the good and bad points about your own body in order to work with it and enhance your best features. None of us are perfect, not even the gorgeous models you see on the runway, as they all have flaws that are carefully covered with make up and/or the clothes they are wearing on the runway.

Therefore, make the fashion work for you with what fits and suits you best even if it is some accessories such as a belt, scarf, hair clips or shoes. Shoes are yet another whole chapter in girls fashion and they work on the same principles of clothes and accessories. Don’t acquire a pair of shoes just because they are in fashion but because they suit and complement your style and personality.

Fashion has changed so much over the years, and the 1950s were no exception.  1950s fashion brought an incredibly diverse group of elements together to form a distinct style that is still examined and replicated today.

If you are interested in vintage 1950s fashion, there are quite a few vintage clothing shops that sell styles from that era even today.

1950s fashion replications can be found in costume shops.  Many people today choose to have theme parties in which the theme is to dress as though you are living in the 1950s.  And who wouldn’t find this a fun idea?  There are so many diverse elements of fashion included in 1950s fashion; there is something that appeals to everyone.

Innovation of Fifties Fashion

There were many new fashions and styles introduced during the 1950s.  The typical girl wore a tight blouse tucked into a poodle skirt, Capri pants, pedal pushers, jeans, or pirate pants.

Other popular 1950s fashion styles during this time included: petticoats, “can-can” petticoats, peter pan collared blouse, twin sweater set, cinched belt, pleated skirts, gingham dress, motor scooter slacks, stirrup pants, or motor scooter pants.

The bathing suits that girls wore in the 1950s were usually strapless or haltered one-piece suits.  The shoes that were generally worn in 1950s fashion were: penny loafers, white buckskin lace up shoes, saddle shoes, pumps, and the stiletto heel.

An element of men’s formal wear that gained popularity during the 1950s was the White Sports Coat. In general men’s jackets became longer and looser, with less shoulder padding.

Strapless formal wear became popular for women at this time. Boys typically wore letter jackets over a white t-shirt, which are still popular in many high schools today.  Other popular clothing for boys included leather jackets, bowling jackets, and jeans.

The Iconic Poodle Skirt

One of the major icons of 1950s fashion was the poodle skirt.  The poodle skirt was a full skirt with a motif on it (the motif was the poodle).  Other popular emblems were a record or a musical note.  The poodle skirt was a symbol of freedom; the loose skirts with the flowing petticoats were ideal for dancing.

The elements of 1950s fashion were very diverse and unique to that time period.  The styles are so distinct that it is easy to look back today and distinguish the time period from all others.
