What Type of Hat Do You Wear?

You probably are not familar with the various names of all the different hat styles you see at the hat shops. Evolution is a constant in terms of fashion and design, for example red hats are popular today and certain styles appear to last forever. The following is a brief summary of the most recent styles in hats, along with traditionally popular designs.

The cowboy hat is not just worn by cowboys and ranchers – it has become a perennial favorite of almost everyone. A lot of folks who enjoy country and western themes favor cowboy or western hats too. Today this style is not the sole province of males; plenty of females can be seen wearing vibrant, imagine a red hat cowboy style.

The top hat is a different, popular option, often the choice for formal occasions like nuptials and proms. Top hats are even being worn by women, although they frequently adorn them with flowers, lace, bows, etc.

Sailor type hats are alternately referred to as boaters, first appearing in the 19th century. This style has a straight brim and is stiffly shaped, constructed of straw, adorned with a ribbon band and with a flat top. Nowadays this style has lost some of its popularity, however it was a favorite of mostly females and kids.

Bowler styles, referred to alternatively as Derbys, feature upturned sides, a curved brim and a crown that is not deep. The bowler hat was originally introduced to shield a person’s head while riding a horse, and so was constructed of hard felt. Women and children commonly wear this hat today.

The fedora hat was originally a men’s hat, but has now become a fashion accessory for women. Modern women wear fedoras plain or ornately decorated with bows, ribbons, or tule. Guys still look terrific wearing fedora styles, but they probably won’t adorn them.

You must remember the baseball hat, which has been around for decades. These are nearly a universal staple due to their versatility and wide array of options as far as color, design and so on.

Regardless of your look, there is hat out there for you to enjoy. When you’re dressing formally, or going for a casual look, or even covering up a “bad hair day” – anytime is the right time for a hat.
